OK - some purists say that these are NOT brownies, but then I've always made cake-like brownies, so . . . sue me. These are really great if you want something brownie-like and don't have the stuff to make them. It was a recipe from the web that I altered to create what appears below.
Brownies from a cake mix
Basic Mix Ingredients:
18 oz Devil's food Cake Mix
2 Eggs
3/4 C Milk - plus a little more as needed
Preheat oven. to 350° F
Grease a 9x13x2 pan and then use cocoa powder (just like using flour when baking a cake, use cocoa for the brownies) to dust the pans.
Dump about two-thirds of the cake mix into your bowl. Using a hand mixer, mix in eggs and milk. With a spoon, blend in the remaining mix - it will be a thick batter. Stir in any additions (see below). Spread in pan, smooth top.
Bake 20-30 minutes, keeping in mind that shorter is chewy - longer is dry.
Additions (not a comprehensivc list by any means):
1 - 1 1/2 cups of any of the following: semi-sweet chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, peanut butter chips, white chocolate chips, Reese's pieces -- or even better . . . mix them up!
- or -
15 - 20 soft caramels
- or -
25 Andes Mints, chopped
- or -
3 York Peppermint patties, chopped
